Enrichment for Free: The Perks of Being a Rutgers-Camden Student

Read Time:2 Minute, 45 Second

Back-to-school season is in full swing, which means it’s time to enjoy the multitude of community events and exhibitions around the Camden area. Rutgers-Camden is able to offer discounted tickets for events in the Camden and Philadelphia areas by partnering with multiple organizations whose focus is discounted community events. Through these various programs and collaborations, students at Rutgers-Camden have access to multiple community events and institutions in the South Jersey and Philadelphia areas for a discounted rate.

When asked why it’s important that Rutgers-Camden continue to provide these resources, Mustafah Sabuur, Program Coordinator for the Office of Student Involvement says “Why not give students the ability to just enjoy something you might not always think about doing. It’s an opportunity to explore things you might not have otherwise.”

For Students looking for completely free access to museums in the area, the Rutgers-Camden Library offers students free museum passes that work at ten museums in the area, including the PENN Museum and the Philadelphia Magic Gardens. Passes are first-come, first serve at the library help desk, and they are valid for a total of seven days. Students can find the full list of institutions on the Rutgers-Camden library website.

Another way to get discounted tickets for the surrounding area is through Rutgers-Camden’s partnership with TicketsAtWork. To take advantage of these discounts, students go through a brief process of creating an account with their affiliated Rutgers email account. Once signed up, students will have access to Adventure Aquarium in Camden, Concerts, Movies, Sporting Events, and online stores. The Adventure Aquarium is open from 10 A.M.- 4 P.M. on the weekdays and from 9:30 A.M.- 5 P.M. on the weekends. Students are also able to get discounts for Philadelphia sports teams, as well as select concerts via TicketsAtWork when they sign up for an account with their Rutgers email.

Rutgers-Camden is also partnered with CampusPhilly, which offers discounted rates to museums and events in the Philadelphia area, such as The Philadelphia Museum of Art and the African American Museum in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Museum of Art will be the only stop in the United States for the traveling exhibit Dreamworld: Surrealism at 100, which will run from November 8, 2025 until February 16, 2026. The African American Museum in Philadelphia will be showing Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design exhibit starting November 1, 2025. The exhibit will showcase the Oscar-winner’s designs and personal history.

In addition to the various perks that come with being a Rutgers-Camden student, students have ideas for other events/community institutions that they would like access to. Matt Fallon, a graduate student at Rutgers-Camden, would “like access to the Philadelphia public library; that would be pretty awesome.” While there is no current partnership with the Philadelphia or Camden public library, the Paul Robeson Library on campus offers a wide range of books and services, and is open daily. Another graduate student, Madeline Lay, thinks that “Rutgers’ free and discounted admission to museums and local attractions allows students to take their learning outside the classroom. It’s also an incredible opportunity to take part in the local community and everything it has to offer.”
