Campus Changes: Students Share Ideas for Improvement
As we start a new academic year, it is important that students here at Rutgers share their thoughts and opinions on how campus life could improve. In a recent informal survey, students expressed some changes they would like to see on campus. Here’s a summary of their thoughts:
Introducing Recitations To The Campus:
Vivian, a computer science major, would like to see the use of recitations here on campus. For those who don’t know what a recitation is, it is a smaller class that meets to supplement the work in a large lecture course, as stated by the rutgers.edu page. According to Vivian, her friends at Rutgers New Brunswick have recitations with their professors on their respective courses. She thinks this could have a significant positive impact on students’ grades and performances.
Study Areas In Every Building:
Many students on campus have expressed a desire for designated study areas in every building. Students feel that having accessible study spots throughout campus would greatly improve their academic experience. “Currently, I have to go to the library or campus center to study between classes, which can be inconvenient,” said Ethan, a current freshman here at Rutgers–Camden. By incorporating study areas into every academic building, students would have increased study flexibility while reducing the stress of finding an ideal environment and would foster a more productive academic atmosphere.
More Accessible Parking:
Students have voiced growing frustration over the lack of accessible parking on campus. Many find the experience inconvenient and unnecessary. “It is just a terribly long walk,” said Nikita, a freshman who commutes to and from campus. Most students here at Rutgers–Camden are commuters, making this a vital change that would most improve the general campus experience.
More Events For Creative Writing And Other Creative Work:
Students are advocating for more events that highlight creative writing and other forms of creative work, emphasizing the need for spaces dedicated to artistic expression. Don, a student and writer, is enthusiastic to see more workshops and events that allow students to share their work, while enhancing their creative skills.
Free Coffee:
Students have shown great support for the idea of free coffee on campus, viewing it as an impactful way to boost morale and productivity. With long days of classes, late-night study sessions, and the constant need to stay alert, coffee has become a staple for many. Offering free coffee in common areas or during high-stress periods would be a great way to boost performance and would show the university’s support for student well-being while creating an energized and focused campus atmosphere.
As the university continues to evolve, a positive student experience is essential in shaping the future of campus life. With these suggestions in mind, much progress can be made in creating a better and more comfortable campus experience. Students are encouraged to participate in upcoming SGA town hall meetings where they can share their ideas directly with campus leaders. After all, creating a thriving campus community starts with listening to the voices that matter most: the students.
