Fashion and charity team up

Everyone loves fashion and a good cause. Why not combine the two? Just because we are young does not mean we do not care.

I would like to highlight a few that will offer us affordable ways to give back. Firstly, we all remember the GAP’S famous RED campaign. Their charity was designed to eliminate AIDS/HIV in Africa.

Half of the profits from sales of the GAP (RED) collection went to The Global Fund. RED t-shirts had words like inspire, empower, recover, etc written on the front.

Also, well- known designer Donna Karan (DKNY) designed a t- shirt for the Key To The Cure (Cancer) Foundation. Celebrity Uma Thurman is the 2010 ambassador for this Charity. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to local charity partners.

October 1, 2010 is the starting date of designer Ralph Lauren’s charity: Pink Pony’s 10th Anniversary. Pink Pony is a charity for the fight against cancer. Ten percent of proceeds from Pink Pony products will go to the Pink Pony Fund.

Then there is Lauren Pierce, the clothing line owned by Lauren Bush, former President George W. Bush’s niece. She buys handmade fabric from an organization in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is run by women, for women. She donates ten percent of her profits to the Somaly Mam Foundation.

You can change someone’s life just by supporting one of these charities. It is time to think about others and help those in need. A true fashionista is all about giving back and doing it in style! TaTa.
